It is a circular path of about 15 kilometers, with a medium-high difficulty that runs through granite areas and with an estimated duration of 4 hours, its characteristic is the viewpoint that we can find which gives its name to the trail.
There are those who link this route to that of Arroyo de las Cañas. Both have part of their layout in common. However, on this route we are going only to the Mirador del Azulaque.
It is a very simple and relaxed walk, ideal for doing with the family and getting to know the flora and fauna of the area.
As in the Arroyo de las Cañas circular, we start from Carretera de Cazalla street (C-433). In front of an establishment called Bar Triana We will see the indications for the beginning of the trail. Continue along the sidewalk next to the bike path for about 900 meters and leave the Hermitage of the Virgen del Espino.
This hermitage has a long history that dates back to the 15th century, and it is said that inside there is an image of the Virgen del Espino that has miraculous properties. The hermitage is built in a Mudejar architectural style, with an exposed brick tower and a small cobblestone patio at the entrance. Inside, you can see some interesting details, such as its baroque altarpiece and a wooden ceiling with geometric decorations. The Nuestra Señora del Espino hermitage is a very important pilgrimage site for the inhabitants of El Pedroso and its surroundings, and a pilgrimage is celebrated in its honor every year in May. In addition, it is a quiet and pleasant place to visit and enjoy a moment of peace and reflection.
You continue walking another 300 meters, now on the outskirts, until you reach the Finca La Alberquilla. A sign will tell us to leave the road and follow the wide dirt track.
For 1.7 km we will follow the path back from the Arroyo de las Cañas circular. In fact, at approximately this distance, we will see the incorporation of that route. We continue until we have reached about 4.5 km since we left the town.
Now it's time to advance without major problems for about 3.6 kilometers in a slight climb. In this area you can admire the abundant olive trees and holm oaks.
After traveling those 3.6 km, we reach a crossroads where we have to go to the right, up a track that is less wide and has loose terrain.
You can see the Cortijo-Almazara de Quintanilla. It is an old farmhouse, or country house, that was once used for the production of olive oil. The oil mill, or oil mill, is located inside the building and still preserves part of the original machinery used to extract the oil. In addition, the building has a tower that was used as an olive drying room.
The Cortijo-Almazara de Quintanilla is an example of the importance that olive oil production had in the history of the province of Seville and its economic relevance in the region. Currently, the building is in a state of abandonment and ruins, but still retains much of its historical and architectural charm.
The road reaches its maximum height (about 540 meters). Thus we arrive at the Mirador del Azulaque (a platform with an information sign). From here we can admire the panoramic view that this point offers us and, if there is a breeze, we will enjoy the smell of the flora that surrounds this point.
This is the highest point of the trail and offers a spectacular view of the Huéznar Valley and the municipality of El Pedroso. From here, you can appreciate the beauty of the Sierra Norte de Sevilla in all its splendor. It is a perfect place to take photographs and enjoy the landscape. In addition, you can reach this viewpoint by car, since there is a road that goes up to the top.
This path is traditionally used for livestock transit and is currently very popular among hiking and nature fans. The Cordel de Navahonda has an approximate length of 18 kilometers and crosses a natural landscape of great beauty and variety, which includes oak and cork oak forests, streams and small waterfalls, as well as impressive views of the surroundings.
The path is well signposted and has moderate difficulty, with some steep areas and uneven terrain. Along the route, you can find some points of interest, such as old farmhouses, fountains, watering holes and archaeological remains. El Cordel de Navahonda is an ideal place for those looking to enjoy a day of hiking surrounded by nature, and it is especially recommended during spring and autumn, when the landscape is at its maximum splendor.
The trail is well marked and of moderate difficulty, with some steep ups and downs and uneven terrain, so it is recommended to wear appropriate footwear and enough water. During the tour, you can appreciate the impressive views of the surroundings, as well as the native fauna and flora.
Now it's time to go down a comfortable path that passes by several farms. Two kilometers later we reach the Cazalla Highway again, we take the right and stand on the left shoulder. We will end up arriving again at the Hermitage of the Virgen del Espino.
We have been able to see an impressive place that offers a wide variety of native species, such as a forest of cork oaks and holm oaks, which are the predominant trees in the area. In addition, you can find aromatic plants such as thyme and rosemary.
Refering to fauna, on the trail you can spot various animal species such as deer, wild boar, fox, genet and badger. In addition, there are several species of birds such as the griffon vulture, the short-toed eagle, the peregrine falcon and the eagle owl. You can also see some species of reptiles and amphibians such as the ladder snake and the common frog.
In short, the Azulaque Viewpoint Trail is a perfect place for lovers of nature and the observation of fauna and flora. The route offers an impressive natural environment, where you can find various native species that are part of the ecosystem of the Sierra Norte de Sevilla.
Right here we can take the street on the left to enter the center of El Pedroso.
